FORTE INTERMEDIATE GROUP CLASS
Did you (or your child) begin fencing during the pandemic? Then this five-week class is a must. Fencing is normally best started in a group environment, where fencers learn the fundamental skills that are not easily taught in a private lesson. Distance skills, advanced footwork, strategic thinking, and safety knowhow are some of the vital competencies that all fencers need. During the pandemic, group classes were not offered due to mandated social distancing and capacity restrictions. The American Legion location on Thursdays has made this possible again.
We are so excited to create a class that has been specifically designed to bridge the gaps caused by the pandemic restrictions. Even if you’re already open bouting, this class will be an excellent steppingstone to take your fencing to the next level. While private lessons are excellent for fine-tuning technique, this class will fast-track athletes into open bouting, advanced training, and beyond.
Games, technical skills, safety, and fun awaits!
$125 for five Thursdays in the fall, located at the American Legion Post 344 location in Rockaway. The class is from 5:30PM until 7:00PM. If you have electric equipment, stay after for an hour of open bouting, at no additional charge.
** September 23, 30 ** October 7, 14 ** November 4 **
(Forte at the American Legion will be closed October 21 and 28)
Equipment required: For the first 4 sessions, the athlete must have a glove, mask, and plastron. Full electric equipment will be required only for the final session.

This package also includes 2 semi-private lessons after completing the classes. Choose either a Tuesday or Wednesday series. Please refer to our calendar for scheduling needs. Classes begin promptly at 6:15pm and last 45 minutes. START Dates for the Fundamentals classes are as follows: March 3/4, May 5/6, July 7/8, September 1/2. ALL EQUIPMENT IS PROVIDED DURING THE CLASS.
OPEN FENCING (LIMITED)
As part of their training program, fencers need to practice learned skills and keep in shape. These fencers will participate in bouts against each other and any other willing, and appropriately equipped, person. In order to use a facility, the fencers must pay what is called a “Floor Fee.” This allows them access to the strips, so they can work with their partner(s) to hone their skills and adapt to different fencing techniques.
At Phalanx (Sat/Sun): Forte will permit 6 fencers to attend each Open Fencing session. Each session will be limited to a single weapon and will have 50 minutes to fence.
At the American Legion (Thu): Forte will permit 15 fencers to attend each Open Fencing session.
You MUST sign up using the Lesson Scheduler to receive your admission ticket for Open Fencing.
USA FENCING SUMMER NATIONALS TEAM ENTRY
Forte will be entering teams at USA Fencing’s Summer Nationals in Philadelphia, July 5 (men) and July 7 (women). This fee will cover your portion of the club’s entry fee. You must also be a USA Fencing competitive member, and you must register for Summer Nationals with USA Fencing ($115).
All participants on a Forte team will have the “Open Fencing” fees waived for the month of June.
